Minicars are better than bigger vehicles in many respects, like maneuverability, efficiency, and the fact that they tend to be cheaper than just about anything else on the market. Unfortunately, the key attribute that lends minicars those qualities—their size—is also the one responsible for their typically subpar safety.

But even on that front, things are improving. Minicars are becoming increasingly safe these days, and no minicar is a better example of this than the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage, whose crash-test results in the National Highway Traffic Administration’s New Car Assessment Program have just been released. It’s a safer minicar than you might think!

The Mirage earned four stars in all frontal-crash subcategories as well as five stars in all areas of side crash testing. This corroborates previous results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which gave the Mirage the best possible score in all crashworthiness evaluations—minus the small overlap front test, the most difficult of all.

Minicars are still not quite as safe as trucks or big SUVs, but they’re soon getting to the point where the difference won’t really matter. Visit Bell Mitsubishi to see just why the 2015 Mirage is a perfect example of the advantages low-priced minicars have to offer!
