Mitsubishi continues to push its brand in new directions. The automaker is making more and more SUVs, as well as adding hybrid or plug-in capabilities to most of those SUVs. For instance, an all-new Mitsubishi plug-in concept recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. This next concept, the XR-PHEV II, builds on the legacy of the XR-PHEV that debuted at the 2013 Tokyo show.
This second concept looks almost identical to the first one from the outside, but it sees improvements in other areas. The powertrain now features a 12-kWh battery along with a 161-horsepower electric motor. No more specifications on the engine are known just yet, but hopefully we will hear more from Mitsubushi soon.
Of course, this is still just a concept and it’s not destined for production at this time, but the statement is clear: Mitsubishi continues to work hard on this EV technology and knows that it will play a huge role in its future. And the automaker is already finding more advanced ways to do so, with features like “battery save” and “battery charge” modes featured on the second XR-PHEV concept.
