The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution may be sadly coming to the end of its days, but the Evolution name might live on, according to new reports. The president of the auto company, Tetsuro Aikawa, is allegedly interested in moving the “Evo” title to a future vehicle – one with EV and PHEV technology.
In an interview with Autocar, Aikawa explains that the “oh” portion of the pronunciation of “Evo” means “king” in Japanese, so combined with “EV,” “Evo” is pretty close to “electric vehicle king.” That’s no title to be disregarded for future use.
This upcoming vehicle would likely be based on the next-gen ASX crossover concept that was revealed at the recent Geneva Motor Show. Likely getting the very latest in Mitsubishi EV and PHEV tech, the vehicle should certainly do the late Lancer name justice.
Aikawa calls this potential car the “ultimate of its kind.” What do you think of the new Mitsubishi Evo? Let us know in the comments.
