Mitsubishi Mirage Crossover Could Be Coming in 2020

The Mitsubishi Mirage is a fuel-efficient five-door hatchback designed for those with active lifestyles. This affordable car is ideal for college students, budget-conscious buyers, and those who simply want a car that meets their needs. If you’ve been considering the Mirage, take note: the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage may be getting a little bigger and better.

Sales of the Outlander and Outlander Sport are going strong, and Mitsubishi is changing its lineup to meet customer demands. In doing so, the automaker is decreasing sedan offerings and increasing its crossover lineup. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is the latest crossover to join the brand, and it’s selling well.

Recent rumors are that the Mitsubishi Mirage might be transitioning from a small hatchback to a subcompact crossover, like the Eclipse did. Response, a Japanese publication, revealed that Mitsubishi is working on introducing a brand-new crossover that could be replacing the existing Mirage. The next-generation crossover could arrive as soon as 2020.

If this is the case, the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage will grow in size, offering more room for drivers with active lifestyles. The upcoming crossover will likely keep the same name and offer improved performance and capability.

While Mitsubishi hasn’t confirmed the news, it isn’t out of the question that the popular Mirage hatchback could grow in order to appeal to a wider demographic. If this change is coming, we at Bell Mitsubishi would be excited to have the redesigned Mitsubishi Mirage crossover on our lot.

Lancer Evolution Could Return as New Mitsubishi Crossover

Lancer evolution

It’s no surprise to the auto world that Mitsubishi has a few new SUVs and crossovers in the works; the company announced themselves that the brand would be taking a new, crossover-focused direction following the success of the Outlander. This announcement was swiftly followed by the discontinuation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a performance-focused variant of the Lancer nameplate. Now, however, rumors are flying that a new Mitsubishi crossover could revive the Evolution name.

The rumors sprung into existence following an interview with Mitsubishi’s chief operating officer Trevor Mann, who stated the company is currently considering the possibility of bringing a more performance-oriented vehicle back into the lineup. The kicker in his statement, however, was that the new performance flagship “doesn’t necessarily have to be a sedan.”

Interestingly, this vague announcement comes on the heels of the unveiling of Mitsubishi’s upcoming Eclipse Cross. The new crossover, which fills a segment between the Outlander and Outlander Sport, takes the “Eclipse” name from the sports coupe in Mitsubishi’s lineup in the 90s.

So, will we be getting a new Mitsubishi crossover that will carry on the “Evolution” name? That remains to be seen. But Mann has given us a few pieces of the puzzle, and, paired with Mitsubishi’s track record of resurrecting dead badging, we at Bell Mitsubishi have a theory or two of our own.
