The Mitsubishi brand is always looking to the future. The
compact Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will be one of the first models to wear the
brand’s new design language. The design for the 2020 Outlander Sport features a
bold new grille, a flatter hood, and new headlights.
Updates continue inside with improvements in the materials
throughout the cabin. These include better seat upholstery, new climate control
knobs that are easier to grip, a black headliner, and a new 8-inch touchscreen
Nate Berg, director of product planning for Mitsubishi Motors North America, said to CNET, “Design will be a key strategic thing moving forward for Mitsubishi Motors. We will continue to focus on refining our design.”
Many of the new design features we see in the Outlander
Sport debuted in the Engelberg Tourer concept we saw at earlier car shows. This
design language gives the Mitsubishi brand a more rugged persona.
Under the hood, the Outlander Sport remains the same with a
standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of
torque. Buyers will also be able to choose from a variety of available active
safety features, including automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and
automatic emergency braking.

As one of the most popular vehicles that Mitsubishi has to offer, many people are curious about what they can expect to see from the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. While the 2016 was a great vehicle in its own right, the new model took it to the next level. Here’s how.
The first 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport change people will notice is the redesigned exterior. Mitsubishi gave the Outlander Sport a makeover and as a result, this year’s model looks very sleek and modern. As part of this makeover, the Outlander Sport received a new grille, a new bumper, and new 18-inch wheels.
On the inside, drivers will find that there is a new steering wheel and that Mitsubishi has added an automatic climate control system. Tech lovers will enjoy the new 6.1-inch color display system on the console. Mitsubishi also changed the materials that they used on the interior to improve the look and feel of the finish.
The new 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is in a crowded market with a lot of competition, but the new touches that it added to this year’s model prepare it well to compete with every other vehicle in its class.
Last month, Mitsubishi reported its first annual North American profits in seven years following a 19 percent increase in sales between January and March. The automaker predicted that the rest of 2015 would be even more promising, and it seems it was right.
Mitsubishi’s April sales totaled 8,216 units, marking the brand’s 14th consecutive month of year-over-year increases in North America as well as a whopping 25.6 percent improvement over April 2014 and the best automaker’s best April in seven years.
As always, the Outlander Sport set the sales pace for the rest of the lineup. 2,674 customers drove away with one last month, though perhaps even more impressive was that the Mirage nearly matched that figure. With 2,407 models sold, the Mirage is up a huge 65.4 percent for the first four months of the year. Just give it a test drive at Bell Mitsubishi and you’ll understand why in no time!
“Our cars are not only priced right, but they are also economical to own, exceptionally reliable and are backed by an industry-leading warranty,” said Don Swearingen, MMNA Executive Vice President. “It is these important qualities that are attracting new car buyers to the Mitsubishi brand.”
Mitsubishi Motors North America just saw its best February since 2008. Sales were up 26% compared to February 2014. Year-to-date sales are up 29.3% compared to last year as well. The Outlander Sport crossover led the gains closely followed by the Lancer sports sedan.
Totals came out to 7,533 vehicles sold in February 2015, up from 5,977 in February 2014. The Outlander Sport compact crossover had its best-ever February, marking 2,394 units sold. Mitsubishi Lancer sales were up 64% compared to February 2014. The compact sports sedan sold just under 2,100 units. The fuel efficient Mirage five-door sold 1,863 units, the best since it joined the lineup in 2013.
“Mitsubishi Motors continues to demonstrate outstanding momentum going forward in 2015,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President. “Our dealers are seeing increased traffic, posting strong sales with our core models. We are looking forward to a good sales year that will be bolstered by launching new and significantly redesigned versions of key models throughout the year starting next month at the New York International Auto Show.”
Year-to-date totals come out to 14,026 vehicles sold compared to less than 11,000 in 2014. Things are looking good for Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi announced last week that the 2015 Outlander Sport, one of its most popular crossovers, will have a new engine option: that of a 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine that produces up to 168 horsepower.
This engine is the same model that’s currently available in Mitsubishi’s Lancer sedan, so although the automaker hasn’t released the official specs on the engine for the Outlander, we can assume that it will likely work the same way.
The new engine will be available for two 2015 Outlander Spot models, the ES and GT, which are being priced at $22,145 and $24,445 respectively. Not a bad price at all for these top-of-the-line crossovers, a staple in Mitsubishi’s catalog.
Plus, various luxury packages are available for the new models, including the GT Premium Package and the GT Touring Package, in addition to the new Outlander engine option.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is Mitsu’s best-selling model for good reason. For 2015, the compact utility vehicle builds on the popularity of the 2014 model.
The biggest change for this year is the new and improved continuously-variable transmission. With its upgrades in engineering, the Outlander Sport now provides drivers with 28 mpg combined for the two-wheel drive model and 27 mpg combined for four-wheel drive.
Along with the more efficient transmission, Mitsubishi engineers also improved upon the design of the 2015 Outlander Sport’s 2.0-liter engine and added the benefit of electric power steering.
As for more visible changes, new Carbon and piano black with silver-accented audio trimming are available to provide a touch of sophistication to the crossover’s interior. LED running lights are also an option for the model’s SE trim.
As the Outlander Sport continues to grow in popularity, we are excited to see what plans Mitsubishi has for the model in the future. “The Outlander Sport has been leading the way for the brand in 2014 and Outlander has steadily increased compared to last year,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen. “But our sedans are also doing well with consistently strong Mirage sales and Lancer with a strong showing in October.”
