Mitsubishi 2017 Sales: More Than 100,000 Vehicles Delivered, Five Straight Years of Growth

Mitsubishi 2017 SalesThe fastest-growing non-luxury automotive brand in the United States last year was Mitsubishi, earning the title with a 7.7% increase in sales from 2016 and a grand total of 103,686 vehicles delivered. Mitsubishi 2017 sales also marked five consecutive years that sales have grown year-on-year.

“2017 was a remarkable year for Mitsubishi as we continued our rebuilding effort and posted another year of sales growth. In just five years, Mitsubishi sales have increased nearly 80%, and we’re doing that with fleet sales that are lower than industry average,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and chief operating officer, MMNA.

The most key component of Mitsubishi’s success was the Outlander, which benefitted from strong sales momentum throughout the year to finish the year up 32.9% at 35,310 delivered. Helping to polish off the year with a record December was the Outlander Sport, which finished the year up from 2016 at 33,160 delivered.

“Mitsubishi’s CUV lineup posted banner sales, up 15% over 2016. Customer demand for these vehicles is as high as it has ever been due to a combination of style, technology, performance, and value,” Swearingen added.

December also marked the launch of the long-awaited Outlander PHEV, which—combined with the arrival of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross crossover later this year—should help Mitsubishi net its 6th straight year of growth in America and maintain its title as the fastest-growing non-luxury brand in the United States.

“While we’re excited for the success the brand achieved in 2017, we’re hitting the ground running in 2018 with the launch of two new CUVs,” said Swearingen. “The highly anticipated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) just began shipping to our dealers, and the all-new Eclipse Cross will arrive in showrooms in March. These two new vehicles, combined with the Outlander and Outlander Sport will give Mitsubishi a family of CUVs that is unmatched in the industry.”

If Mitsubishi 2017 sales—and sales from the four years prior—are any indication, 2018 should be a banner year for the brand.
