Driving during the winter can be dangerous for a range of reasons, from poor visibility to low temperatures. However, one of the biggest hazards is driving on ice. If you venture onto a slick road and your vehicle slides on ice, it’s important that you keep these tips in mind on how to act.
First and foremost, avoid slamming on the
brakes if you start to slide. Although this might be your first instinct, it
can make the situation significantly worse. Instead of braking, simply remove
your foot from the accelerator.
Another knee-jerk response may be to
quickly turn the wheel. However, doing so can lead to overcorrecting and losing
control of your vehicle, so it’s wise to be gentle with your steering.
You should also pay attention to how your
vehicle is sliding. If your back wheels are the ones that are sliding, you
should turn the wheel in the direction you’re sliding, while staying off the
gas pedal. If the front wheels are sliding, you should lift your foot off the
gas pedal and let the vehicle slow down. You should then regain control, but if
you don’t, attempt to slightly press the brake pedal.
We at Bell Mitsubishi hope you stay safe when driving this winter. To prepare for snowstorms and slick roads, head into our service department for seasonal maintenance.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross features safety technology in
the upper echelon of the automotive industry, and the brand recently took home
the award to prove it. The Eclipse earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in its 2019 tests. The IIHS is an
independent, non-profit organization that rates vehicle safety across the
industry, basing its findings on a variety of factors.
To earn a Top Safety Pick rating, vehicles must earn “Good” ratings on the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests, as well as an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. Mitsubishi notes that the Eclipse Cross scored “Good” in all six crash-test areas.
“We’re focused on engineering safety, quality and
reliability into every vehicle we build, which is reflected in the IIHS TOP
SAFETY PICK recognition for the Eclipse Cross,” said Mark Chaffin,
chief operating officer, Mitsubishi Motors North America. “Eclipse Cross
continues to impress customers with its distinctive and rugged design, advanced
connectivity features and available active safety equipment that current drivers
desire in the popular compact SUV segment.”
Safety features on the new Eclipse Cross include Brake
Assist, Daytime Running Lights, and Electronic Stability Control. Available
systems such as a Multi-View Camera System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision
Mitigation, and Blind Spot Monitoring also add to the SUV’s award-winning suite
of safety technology.
You’ll enjoy the peace of mind offered by the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross when you take one for a spin at Bell Mitsubishi.
Starting in 1992, Mitsubishi produced a dynamic sports sedan
called the Lancer Evolution, but the popular model was discontinued in 2017
when the automaker decided to focus their business on SUVs, hybrids, and
electric vehicles rather than sports. But plans may be changing.
Information from Japan-based sources has revealed that
Mitsubishi may be resurrecting the Lancer Evolution in the near future. The most
recent iteration of the sedan was called the Lancer Evolution X, so for the
time being, the rumored comeback car is known by the name Lancer Evolution XI.
If the Lancer does return to production, its design will
likely build on Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi’s MF-C/D F4 platform. The sport
sedan’s previous renditions featured 2.0L turbo engines capable of producing up
to 303 horsepower, so it stands to reason that the Evolution XI will have
similar power, especially since the comparable Renault Megane RS houses similar
hardware. The new model will also offer both manual and automatic transmissions
as well as standard All-Wheel Drive.
Despite having been discontinued, the Lancer remains a popular choice for drivers in China. Its continued presence in Asian markets may be a contributing factor in Mitsubishi’s planned resurrection of the sport sedan.
Speculation names Osamu Masuko, chairman and former CEO of
Mitsubishi, as a supporter of the vehicle’s return. Currently there’s little to
go on other than speculation, but experts seem confident that reviving the
performance-focused segment of the Mitsubishi lineup would be a smart move for
the automaker. For the time being, all we can do is wait and see.
In the meantime, get up to speed with all of the currently available Mitsubishi vehicles at Bell Mitsubishi.
